Eagles Continue To Deal With Key Injuries

By Ed Benkin

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --  You can't tell the players without a program on the Eagles offensive line and in the secondary.

Both areas are dealing with injuries as the Eagles get set to take on the Texans in Houston on Sunday.  The concerns are greater on the offensive line which has already dealt with it's share of injuries.  The latest is Todd Herremans, whose battle with a bicep injury has left his status uncertain for Sunday.  Herremans has been able to practice, and Chip Kelly will see how Herremans progresses during the week before making a decision about Sunday.

"He went yesterday," said Kelly.  "It's what he can deal with, but he's back up, ready, slated to go.  We'll see what he can do this week."

While Herremans suffered his injury on Sunday, Jason Kelce continues his recovery from sports hernia surgery last month.  Kelce is also hoping he will be ready to play on Sunday.  Kelly said he will put his trust in the team doctors as well as the players before putting them back on the field.

"I defer to the player and they can tell me how they feel," Kelly said.  "They have been around long enough.  I have great faith and trust in them in terms of where they are.  None of it is on my call.  I don't make any calls on who plays and doesn't play.  It's really our medical team making the decision."

The offensive line isn't the only area in which the Eagles are dealing with injuries.  Cornerback Brandon Boykin and Safety Nate Allen have both missed practice this week due to hamstring issues.  If Allen can't go, second-year Safety Earl Wolff will start in his place.

"I prepare every game like I'm going to play," said Wolff.  "I prepare like somebody might get hurt.  I hope it doesn't happen, but I prepare every game the same way."

The Eagles will have a clearer picture at the end of the week as to who will be available on Sunday.  Running Back LeSean McCoy has seen plenty of his linemen go down during the season and is hoping the latest injury to Herremans won't keep him out of action.

"This is a tough season," McCoy said.  "Guys are coming in and out.  Hopefully, it's not too serious and he can play.  We don't want another lineman out."

Wide Receiver Brad Smith was limited in practice on Wednesday as he continues to recover from a groin injury.
