Week 8: Eagles' Studs And Duds

By Andrew Porter

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- My heart still hurts as I sit here and write this on Monday morning. How could the Eagles lose that game? It still doesn't make sense. Two key red zone turnovers, two huge plays allowed to the opposition, some questionable coaching decisions, inconsistent quarterback play, atrocious officiating (and broadcasting for that matter), and a game-changing injured punt returner equals a devastating incomprehensible four-point loss to the Arizona Cardinals.

It's the Eagles' second road loss, in which they came inches away from the end zone, costing them the ball game. Most difficult part is, the Eagles were the better team, again, on Sunday.

Duds

3. Cary Williams

This is becoming a weekly routine. Has he made a play all year? Seriously, I can't remember one.

And, you know, this.

2. Nick Foles

Say what you want, you Foles' apologists, but he's is clearly struggling to put it nicely. Yes, he does make some incredible throws, like that deep touchdown to Jeremy Maclin, but there's no denying the quarterback isn't playing well. He seems to be back-peddling and throwing off his back every time he has the ball.

Foles now has nine interceptions (t-3rd in NFL) and three fumbles lost in seven games. The Eagles turnover differential? Minus-seven, fourth worst in the NFL. Their 17 turnovers, second worst in the NFL only to Jacksonville.

And their eight fumbles is most in the NFL. They're one of only two teams (Kansas City Chiefs, -2) with a winning record and negative turnover differential.

1. Nate Allen

It just can't happen. Can...not...happen. I've been a Nate Allen defender too, but dude.Ugh.

Studs

3. Cody Parkey

No one realized how good this kid was going to be. Not me, not you, not Chip, not even Parkey himself. The kid is straight money right now.

For the record, I totally disagreed with Chip's decision to attempt a field goal down seven points early in the third, on a 4th and 2 from the Arizona 36-yard line. It was a 54-yard field goal attempt and Parkey drilled it. Shows the confidence his coach has in him.

Ps. Everything is a touchback

2. DeMeco Ryans

Ryans continued his superb play this season. He only had three total tackles, but had one massive tackle for a loss, and one HUGE pass defended in the end zone saving a touchdown. He made big plays all day and is the rock of the defense.

1. Jeremy Maclin

Maclin set a career-high with 187 yards on 12 receptions, while adding two touchdowns. His 12 catches were his second-most ever and is tied for the fourth-most ever by an Eagle. He's established himself as a top NFL receiver and legit No. 1.

I won't talk about his punt returning skills, however. Those were yucky.

Ps. Gatorade bath!
