A Dozen Or More Students Taken Into Custody Following Large Fights At Del. High School

NEWARK, Del. (CBS) -- Twelve to 15 students have been taken in custody following several large brawls at Newark High School in Delaware.

Police say the initial incident began around 7 a.m.  this morning when staff broke up a fight in the A Cafeteria. When police responded, another brawl broke out in the C and D hallways of the school.

Officers called for assistance and additional NPD officers arrived, along with officers from New Castle County and the Delaware State Police.

Officers and school staff eventually broke up the fights and dispersed the big crowds.

Police say a dozen or more students were taken into custody. They will be released to their parents pending further investigation and potential charges.

Officials say there were no injuries and the school day has resumed normally. Police remain at the school as a precaution.
