Police: NJ Woman Killed In I-95 Crash In Bensalem

By Noel McLaren

BENSALEM, Pa., (CBS) -- Police are asking for the public's help to locate the driver connected to a crash that killed a mother of three.

The accident happened on I-95 near the Woodhaven Road exit in Bensalem, Bucks County.

"Please come forward. You have to take responsibility. Please we are begging you from our all our family and friends. It's the right thing to do," husband Paul DiMaio said.

Police say 44-year-old mother and grandmother Lisa DiMaio was killed in a crash believed to be caused by a so-called "phantom driver."

Witnesses told troopers an unidentified driver of a black sedan cut DiMaio off and slammed on its brakes right in front of her jeep.

DiMaio swerved out of the way, causing her to hit a guardrail and flip multiple times. Her husband, who was on speakerphone with his wife, overheard the whole thing.

"And then I heard her scream and I was yelling on the phone until someone could hear me," he said.

"I heard dad yelling and I got really scared," son Dylan DiMaio said.

DiMaio died shortly after she was taken to the hospital.

Her family says that black vehicle described by witnesses never bothered to stop.

"She didn't deserve this at all," daughter Dina DiMaio said.

DiMaio leaves behind her husband, three children, her young granddaughter and a sea of classmates who expected to catch up with her this weekend for her 25th high school reunion.

"I knew she was the one once I met her," her husband said.

"I slept inside of her bed last night," her son said.

All are heartbroken and are struggling to understand how someone so adored could be abandoned by a driver in her final moments.

State Police describe the car they are looking to identify as a late 1990's early 2000's model black sedan. If you have any information, they ask that you contact the State Police-Trevose at 215-942-3900.
