Phillies Look To Phase Out Paper Tickets

By Mike DeNardo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- It seems everything is going digital these days, and Phillies tickets are no exception.

The Phillies are nudging their 17,500 season ticket holders to renew with e-tickets next year, as opposed to a delivery of paper tickets.

"Which means they just have access to their tickets sooner," says John Weber, Vice President, Ticket Sales and Operations for the Phillies. "They'll be able to email then to their co-workers, to friends, and print them out themselves if they so choose."

Weber says in two or three years, the team will migrate nearly all tickets to a digital form.

"It's really about a convenience for your customer," he says, "in terms of where everything is going to your tablet, to your phone, to your computer, and just having access that inventory and you managing it as you see fit."

Weber says people picking up at the window or purchasing them would get a physical ticket.

Fans will use home-printed tickets, or scan a bar code from their cell phones to get into the ballpark. Digital or paper, Weber says next year's tickets will be the same price as they were this season.
