Trial Date Set For Former Eagles Safety

PHOENIX (AP) — A January 5 trial date has been set for former Philadelphia Eagles safety Keelan Johnson on charges that he pushed a police officer who was investigating a fight at a Tempe bar.

Johnson has pleaded not guilty to charges of aggravated assault on an officer and resisting arrest.

Police say Johnson was instructed on July 19 to back away from the scene where officers were investigating a fight between a bar bouncer and an acquaintance of Johnson.

Investigators say Johnson followed the command but eventually approached the scene again and pushed the officer.

Court records say Johnson told police that he pushed the officer because the officer pushed him and he didn't feel it was right to be told to move.

Johnson has since been released by the Eagles.
