Another Delay In Proposed Light Rail Line To Glassboro, New Jersey

TRENTON, NJ. (CBS) -- It's been discussed for well over 15 years. Setting up a commuter rail link from Camden through to Woodbury and Glassboro, New Jersey. Now, a proposed environmental impact study has been put on hold by federal officials.
The Federal Transit Administration won't do the study until an agency steps up to actually own and operate the line. The Delaware River Port Authority and New Jersey Transit have both said the line is a good idea. But neither apparently wants to take that next step. State Senate President Steve Sweeney, a long time proponent of the line, says that will be corrected shortly.
"New Jersey Transit has provided the money for the environmental study," he says. "I think it's over $8 million. We're getting ready to figure out what to do with the Transportation Trust Fund, but you can be assured the light rail project will be part of that."
Sweeney believes work on the line will begin in a couple years. However, that promise has been made several times before.
