New TV Show That Began Shooting In Philadelphia Moves Away

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A hot new network TV show that got its start in Philadelphia is shooting for the stars, but production has moved to Tinseltown.
"How to Get Away With Murder" is about a law professor, played by Viola Davis, whose students at a Philadelphia university get wrapped up in a murder plot. The show's executive producer is Shonda Rhimes.
The pilot was shot in the Philadelphia area for 13 days last March, but once it was picked up by ABC for its fall lineup, shooting relocated to Los Angeles.
Sharon Pinkinson, with the Greater Philadelphia Film Office, says the move was made for a couple of reasons:
"One of which is that Shonda Rhimes has two other shows that are shooting in Los Angeles, and having one across the country in Philadelphia makes it really hard for her to manage all of that writing and all of that work. And Viola Davis apparently wanted to stay in Los Angeles if the show went to series, which is something we did not know when we were shooting the pilot."
Pinkinson says it's not uncommon for a production to return to reshoot a scene that can not be "doubled" elsewhere, but it's still too early to tell, she says, if this will happen in this case.
