Delaware Looks For Bounce Back Effort vs. Elon

By Matt Leon

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- The Delaware Blue Hens will be home again on Saturday as they welcome Colonial Athletic Association newcomer Elon to Delaware Stadium.

Delaware sits at 3-2 on the season (1-0 in the CAA) after a frustrating 10-7 loss at home to Sacred Heart this past weekend. The Blue Hens scored on the game's first play from scrimmage when sophomore Jalen Randolph ran 79 yards for a touchdown. But that would prove to be the only score Delaware would muster.

"Obviously a very disappointing loss for the program and everybody associated with it," Delaware head coach Dave Brock tells KYW Newsradio. "When you look at it, we didn't do a good enough job as a coaching staff of putting the kids in enough good positions offensively to allow us to win the game. I thought we played pretty well defensively. Ten points (allowed) is certainly a good day at the office. Special teams-wise I thought we played okay and were very competitive. Our punter punted the ball terrifically. We just had to find a way to make a couple of plays and we weren't able to do it."

On Saturday the Blue Hens will face a Elon squad that has gone 1-4 this season, but Brock says they have played a pretty tough schedule to this point.

"Obviously Duke is a terrific team in the ACC (Elon lost to them 52-13)," Brock says. "And then the last two weeks they've played two, what I think, are top five teams in the country in Coastal Carolina (lost 31-3) and New Hampshire (lost 48-14), so hard to judge. Right now the reality of our situation is we have to fix what our problems are, we really have to focus on Delaware and what we're doing and how we're doing it. We need to go out and play a clean game and an efficient game and match-up against Elon and see what happens."

Brock talks about what he expects from the Phoenix when they have the football.

"They are a one-back offense," Brock says. "They'll be a little bit different than most of the people we've played this year in that I think they'll be pass first, by design. Whereas most of the teams we've played have been run first."

And Brock expects them to try and be disruptive when the Blue Hens have the football.

"They're a pressure operation, four downs, some odd looks," Brock says. "They're a pressure group, they do a good job defensively of creating negative plays."

Delaware and Elon will kick-off at 3:30pm on Saturday.
