Corbett Signs Execution Warrant For Man Convicted In 2005 Shooting Death Of Police Officer

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. (CBS) --- Governor Tom Corbett has signed the warrant of execution for Robert Anthony Flor, convicted in the 2005 murder of Newtown Borough Police Officer Brian Gregg.

A media release from the Bucks County District Attorney's office says Flor, 47, is scheduled to be executed on December 4, 2014.

In 2006, Flor pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in the shooting death of Officer Gregg inside St. Mary Medical Center. He also pleaded nolo contendere to attempted murder in the shootings of Newtown Borough Police Officer James Warunek and St. Mary Emergency Room Technician Joseph Epp.

In 2005, Officer Gregg and Officer Warunek brought Flor to the hospital for a DUI blood test. When his handcuffs were taken off, Flor took Officer Warunek's gun and fired several shots.

The penalty hearing began on November 6th, 2006 and finished eleven days later with the jury returning with a death sentence.

The judge immediately imposed the death sentence for first-degree murder, and a consecutive aggregate sentence of 65-130 years for attempted murder, robbery, assault, and other charges.

Flor is one of the 184 Pennsylvania inmates on death row. Governor Corbett has now signed 40 death warrants during his administration.
