Car Accidentally Runs Over Elderly NJ Woman

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) — Authorities say an elderly woman was hospitalized after she was accidentally run over by a car at a southern New Jersey home.

Gloucester Township police say the accident occurred shortly before noon Sunday.

The woman was trying to put some items into the vehicle's trunk when her 84-year-old sister got out of the driver's seat and went to help her. The vehicle then rolled backward and knocked the woman to the ground, pinning her under the vehicle.

Police officers used a jack to raise the vehicle off the victim and move her to safety. The woman was then taken to a hospital, where she was being treated for undisclosed injuries.

The investigation into the accident is ongoing, and no charges have been filed.
