West Chester Looks To Stay Perfect Saturday vs. Millersville

By Matt Leon

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- West Chester University will look to stay undefeated on Saturday night as they welcome Millersville to John A. Farrell Stadium.

The Golden Rams raised their record to 3-0 last weekend as they dismissed Seton Hill 45-10 out in Greensburg, Pennsylvania.

"It was positive that day, especially offensively, because we were trying to improve our run game, which we did," West Chester head coach Bill Zwaan tells KYW Newsradio. "We gained (218 yards) rushing. Brandon Monk had a nice day, got over 100 yards (101) on (11) carries. And Erick Brundidge, our wide receiver from Northeast (High School), had three touchdown catches. So from an offensive standpoint we did what we had to do. Defensively, we just really played great from the beginning of the game. We shut them down almost completely."

But the news was not all good coming out of the game as star senior linebacker Ronell Williams suffered a knee injury and will be out for a while. Zwaan says the Golden Rams will miss more than just Williams' ability as a special defensive player.

"We're going to lose Ronell's leadership, too," Zwaan says. "He's certainly our inspirational leader on and off the field and kind of the soul of our team. So there is a little bit of that that we're working on replacing. We have four other guys who are captains, who will step up and take over a leadership role. But obviously when you have that type of personality and that type of leader, it is tough to fill those shoes."

Zwaan says North Penn HS product Ralph Reeves, a sophomore, will step in at linebacker in Williams' absence.

Millersville has really struggled here in 2014. The Marauders are 0-3 and they have been outscored in their last two losses, 101-33.

"They're just a little bit young, almost everywhere," Zwaan says. "Especially defensively, they're very young. So they're going through some growing pains on both sides of the ball. They have some young o-linemen and some young defensive guys at linebacker and in the secondary. They're very well coached, they get better each year, but they're still playing young guys."

Last season West Chester beat Millersville on the road, 48-3.

Saturday's game will kickoff at 6:00pm.
