Decades in Prison For Montco Man Whose Infant Daughter Died in His Hands

By Brad Segall

NORRISTOWN, Pa. (CBS) -- A Montgomery County judge has sentenced an Upper Moreland, Pa. father to at least ten years in state prison after he admitted responsibility for the death of his two-month-old daughter in February 2013 after a night of drinking.

This past summer Edward Doyle pleaded guilty to third-degree murder, telling the judge he wanted to spare the families the agony of a trial and that his stupid actions cost him his daughter.

Today, the 30-year-old man was sentenced to 10-20 years behind bars.

Nobody's quite sure what happened inside the apartment.  Doyle claimed he was holding the child and then fell on her, but prosecutors say her injuries were inconsistent with his stories.

He admitted he caused her death by failing to get medical help.

"We have to try to move forward and live with that, but we talk about her every day so she's not forgotten -- she won't ever be forgotten," said Karen Lavelle, grandmother of the little victim, Makayla Doyle.
