2 Rowan Fraternity Brothers Suspended Over Online Sex Video; Frat Chapter Suspended

By Mike DeNardo

GLASSBORO, N.J. (CBS) - Two members of a fraternity at Rowan University are suspended over a sexually explicit video that was posted online.

A disciplinary hearing will determine what action Rowan University may take against two fraternity brothers who made and posted a sex video involving a female student.

Students told administrators they saw postings about it on social media.

Rowan spokesman Joe Cardona says the two male students, members of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity, are on interim suspension for now. He says one of the male students videotaped the other male having sex with a female student, and then posted it online without her consent.

Cardona says the female student, though, declined to pursue criminal charges:

"Since they're all adults, the female student had the right to file a complaint. And she decided not to."

By the time Rowan University got word of the video, it had already been taken down from the internet.

Cardona says the university would not report the outcome of the disciplinary hearing because of student privacy laws.

Along with the two fraternity members suspensions, the fraternity chapter at Rowan University has also been suspended by the international organization of Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE.)

It released the following statement regarding the incident: 'The international organization of Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE) has temporarily suspended the operations of the Rowan University chapter pending the results of our own and the university's investigations into a sexual act between two consenting adults which was inappropriately posted online.  TKE is cooperating with Rowan officials.

Just yesterday, TKE's new CEO announced mandatory online, interactive training for all TKE student members which covers sexual assaults, hazing, substance abuse, codes of conduct and other issues.  The organization has emphasized that such behavior goes against our values and will not be tolerated.'
