Uber Should Be Kicked Out of Pennsylvania, Regulatory Officials Recommend

By Tony Romeo

HARRISBURG, Pa. (CBS) -- Two administrative law judges have recommended that the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission deny an application by ride-sharing company Uber for a license to operate in Pennsylvania.

Taxicab companies have protested ride-share operations as unfair competition.  Now, PUC spokeswoman Denise McCracken says, two administrative law judges have recommended against sanctioning the operations of the ride share company.

"Although transportation network company service generally is of great potential use to the public, the administrative law judges believe that this particular company did not sustain its burden of demonstrating that it's also committed to protecting the public. And when we say 'protecting the public' we mean both drivers and passengers."

The PUC will act on the recommendation no earlier than November. State lawmakers are also mulling legislation to establish standards and regulations for ride share services.
