Delaware Returns From Bye, Visits JMU Saturday

By Matt Leon

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- The Delaware Blue hens sit at 2-1 on the season as they prepare to open CAA play on Saturday on the road against James Madison.

Delaware is coming off a bye week. Prior to the break, the Blue Hens picked up a thrilling, come from behind 28-25 win over Colgate on September 13th.

"I think you'd like it (the bye week) a little bit later in the season," Delaware head coach Dave Brock tells KYW Newsradio. "But for us right now, the way the team's kind of made up, I think it was good for us. We needed a little bit of a break. The guys got some time off and time away, get themselves recharged, not only mentally but physically. Had a couple of good practices on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and then they had about 45 hours off. We got back at it Sunday night and had a real good practice and looking forward to a great week and a great challenge going down to Harrisonburg on Saturday afternoon."

On Saturday the Blue Hens will face a 2-2 James Madison squad that is coming off a 49-31 loss on the road at Villanova. The Dukes have an outstanding talent under center in quarterback Vad Lee. A redshirt junior, Lee is a transfer from Georgia Tech and last week in the loss to Villanova, he threw for a school record 406 yards.

"He's a super player," Brock says. "He's done a really good job. My experience from obviously coaching in that league where he came from in the ACC, certainly knew he could run and was a very efficient player. You start in that league every game and do what he did, you know he's a winner. But he's done a really nice job throwing the football and acclimating to their offense. He's gotten better really every week, every half. You see the growth on tape. You see his understanding of what they're trying to do."

Last season, Delaware beat JMU 29-22 in Newark as Trent Hurley threw three touchdowns passes, including the game winner with 6:40 left in the 4th quarter.

The Blue Hens and Dukes will kickoff on Saturday at 4:00pm in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
