Coastal Storm Brings Needed Rain

By Justin Drabick

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --  After a quiet start to the Fall season with sunshine, it's time to dust off the umbrella, as a storm system will bring some steady rain to the region.  So far this month, we have only had 0.76" of rain, almost 2" below average for the month so far.  An area of low pressure located off the Southeast coast will continue to develop along a stalled out frontal boundary.  The storm will then track northeast close enough to the coast to bring some rain late Wednesday & Thursday.

The heaviest rain will be late Wednesday night into Thursday morning, with the highest amounts across southern NJ & Delaware.  Rainfall amounts of 1-2" are possible, south & east of Philadelphia with lesser amounts north & west.  If the storm tracks farther away from the coast, then the highest rainfall amounts would be shifted to the coastal areas.  Because of the recent dry conditions, no river or stream flooding is expected.

Stronger easterly winds will occur Wednesday into Thursday, gusting to 35mph along the coast.  Some tidal flooding is possible around times of high tide Wednesday night and Thursday morning.  The rain & easterly wind will keep temperatures on the chilly side with highs in the 60s on Thursday.  Drier and milder weather will return later on Thursday and continue through the weekend, with warmer high temperatures around 80 degrees.
