By Dan Wing
EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP, Pa., (CBS) -- Authorities in Atlantic County say a 51-year-old Egg Harbor Township man is headed to jail for brutally beating a dog to death earlier this year.
The county prosecutor's office says Steven Geisel was arrested in mid-February following a two-week investigation into the dog's death. Authorities say Geisel took the female pit bull to a wooded area near his Ocean Heights Avenue home, and beat it in the neck and head with a blunt object causing the animal's death.
Geisel was found guilty of animal cruelty, and will now spend 364 days in jail followed by two years of probation. He'll also pay restitution to the Atlantic County SPCA for the cost of the investigation, and will serve 30 days of community service with the organization.
