NFL Analyst Heath Evans To Eagles Faithful: "Be A Realist"

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- NFL analyst Heath Evans does not appear ready to buy in on the Eagles. He does not consider Chip Kelly's squad a top ten NFL team either. On Thursday, he spoke with Anthony Gargano and Rob Ellis on WIP Afternoons to defend his take on the Eagles.

Evans wasted no time, telling Eagles fans what they needed to do to get a true grip of what their team is. "Be a realist," said the NFL analyst in regards to his stance that the Eagles do not belong in the discussion of top NFL teams.

Evans has argued that part of his downgrade of the Eagles is that they should be 1-1 in his opinion. He referenced the infamous no call toward the end of the game on a play between Brandon Boykin and Colts wide receiver T.Y. Hilton.

The call has been widely debated, but Evans stands firm that if the tables were turned, Eagles fans would be singing a different tune.

To justify his opinion on the Eagles not being a top ten team, Evans attempted to list the teams in the NFL that are currently ahead of the Eagles in his mind.

Evans began by listing the Denver Broncos and the Seattle Seahawks who both represented their respective conferences in last season's Super Bowl.

He then named the Arizona Cardinals with a healthy Carson Palmer. The selection immediately received a sign of disagreement from Gargano which did not sit too well with Evans.

"I'm going to be very polite with you guys," Evans said. "This is where you show the ignorance."

Evan is also well known for remarks that he made when the Eagles hired Chip Kelly last year. He argued at the time that it could go down as one of the league's all-time worst hires.

He gave even more assessment on Chip during his analysis of the Birds.

"[Kelly's] red-zone offense is still suspect at best," Evans said. "This is one of the most fun offenses to watch from 20 to 20. From the 20 to the 20, [the Eagles] are somewhat of a stellar offense," according to Evans.

To continue the list of teams that are better than the Eagles, Evans added San Diego, Carolina and Cincinnati before the conversation shifted back to assessing Kelly.

He laid out the plan for Kelly has to do to prove himself. "He's got to get a defense that continues to grow, which it is. He's also got to improve red-zone efficiency and offense."

As the conversation continued, Evans made some concessions about the positive aspects of the Eagles, but he never backed down on his claim that they are not a top 10 NFL Team.
