Chase Utley Honored By Moyer Foundation

By Paul Kurtz

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Phillies star Chase Utley and his wife, Jen, have been honored with the Jamie Moyer Legends Award for their work off the field.

When they were Phillies teammates, Jamie Moyer encouraged the younger Utley to give back to the community. He and his wife took that advise and have been running with it ever since, focusing on animal cruelty and children in need.

"We've had charity events for the past six years, raised over a million dollars for the PSPCA here in Philadelphia," Utley says. "We have a billboard campaign, we've done mural arts programs, we've worked with children. We're just trying to figure out ways to educate people and how to treat animals."

Moyer and his wife, Karen, have a bustling camp foundation that helps children affected by loss and addiction. He says singling out the Utleys was an easy choice:

"What Chase and Jen have done off the field and what they stand for I think represents themselves, it represents the Phillies organization and they realize the importance of giving back in the community."

Phillies pitcher Cole Hamels received the honor last year.
