4 From Philadelphia Charged In New York Thefts

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) -- Authorities say they've arrested four people from Philadelphia in connection with thefts of personal property in the Albany area.

State police the suspects would go into retail stores and engage a customer in a conversation. Troopers say while the customer was distracted, one of the members of the group would steal the person's wallet from her purse.

Police say the ring stole a debit card from a store in suburban Colonie and a woman's checkbook from a store in nearby Clifton Park in Saratoga County.

All four were arrested after a traffic stop in Clifton Park, north of Albany.

The suspects include two women ages 21 and 22 and two men ages 23 and 47. All four are being held in the Saratoga County Jail.

Troopers say they expect to file more charges.
