Poll: Bell Trails Booker In NJ Senate Race
TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — A new poll suggests voter discontent could pose a problem for the incumbent in New Jersey's U.S. Senate race.
U.S. Sen. Cory Booker leads Republican Jeff Bell 42 to 29 percent among registered voters surveyed in the Fairleigh Dickinson PublicMind Poll released Wednesday. Twenty-seven percent are undecided.
Poll director Krista Jenkins says the fact that Bell trails the well-known Democrat by a smaller than expected margin suggests anti-incumbency could be in play.
The poll shows 46 percent of independent voters are unsure who they will support in the Senate race. But Booker's support is strong among those who do have a preference.
The survey of 721 New Jersey registered voters has a sampling error of plus or minus 3.7 percentage points.
