Search Underway For Suspect Who Attempted Run Down Police In Wissinoming

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Officials have released more information on a police-involved shooting that happened in the city's Wissinoming section on Sunday night.

Around 10 p.m., officers saw a 2010 Nissan Altima with New Jersey plates located in the rear parking lot of the Comly Apartment Complex at 4818 Comly Street.

Officers stopped their vehicle perpendicular to the Altima then exited. At that time, the driver of the Altima put the car in reverse, struck a fence, then attempted to run down the officers, forcing them to discharge their weapons. A passenger inside the car was struck by a bullet, but the Altima then struck the driver's rear panel of the police car and fled onto Comly Street and out of sight.

A short while later, officers located a 20-year-old female at Aria Hospital who was being treated for a gunshot wound to her right thigh. That woman was accompanied by a male and was identified as the passenger in the Altima. The male was also identified as a rear passenger in the car.

Shortly thereafter, the Nissan Altima was found abandoned in the rear driveway of the 6500 block of Vandike Street. The car had multiple striking marks and visible blood inside. The vehicle was also listed as stolen.

The driver of the Altima was identified as 25-year-old Deandre Jones, from the 4800 block of Alcott Street. Contact was made via phone with the suspect, who indicated he was grazed on the left arm, but he refused to give up his location to police. He also said he would surrender to police, but as of Monday evening, he had not done so.

Police are now searching for Jones, and anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call police.
