3 Local Organizations Want You To Run To Work This September

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – You can bike or walk to work, but for one day only, three Philadelphia organizations are asking you to run.

Be Well Philly, Run215 and Philadelphia Runner have created "Run to Work Day Philly," and they're asking commuters to lace up their sneakers and pound the pavement instead of walking, biking, driving or taking mass transit to work.

"The idea grew out of an item we shared back in July that was all about how more and more people across the country are opting for running commutes. It launched a Twitter convo with a few local runners, that eventually turned into a Change.org petition asking Mayor Michael Nutter to sanction an official Run to Work Day Philly," Be Well Philly writes. "In the meantime, we decided to go ahead and just plan one ourselves to get the ball rolling."

Run to Work Day is happening on Friday, Sept. 19th. Runners are asked to share their photos on Instagram and Twitter using the hashtag #RuntoWorkPHL. At the end of the day, one person will win a pair of free running shoes every three months for a year.

But the part that will have many runners sighing in relief? All eight Sweat Fitness locations will be opening the doors to their locker rooms and showers free of charge in honor of the event, meaning you won't be forced to go to work a sweaty mess.
