Eagles Fans Go On Roller Coaster Ride To Start Season

By Tim Jimenez

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Sunday was the day Eagles fans have been waiting for since January 4th. It ended up being a tale of two halves as the Birds erased a large halftime deficit to beat the Jaguars 34-17.

And at Lincoln Financial field, fans kicked off the 2014 season in style. From tailgating in the parking lots to the opening kickoff inside, this fan pretty much sums it up:

"Phenomenal! The feeling, the excitement, the magnetism -- you can just feel it. Everyone's so excited. It's awesome."

Then came the game. It will go down as a win for the Birds, but getting there put fans through quite a ride as the Eagles trailed 17-0 at halftime, then scored 34 unanswered points.

"That first half gave me angina."

"What was going through my mind was is this team for real? Was last year a fluke."

"It was two separate games. First half we let them in with turnovers. Second half we took control and did what we needed to do."

And for season ticket holder Eddie from Phoenxville, he certainly did what he had to do -- and has a scar to prove it.
"Appendectomy," he says. "Knew I had to go to this game."

A week after surgery, how was he feeling?

"The Eagles won, I feel great. No problems for the week."

With the Birds back, many now have that escape they can only find during football season, like with Angelo from Toms River, New Jersey.

"I don't have to listen to my wife every weekend giving me chores," he says. "I get to come out, I mean, it's a great weight training program -- come out here you have a lot of different culinary foods."

And for many, they say that sense of community is back, cheering for their beloved team and it just can't be beat.

"Eagles fans are the best, Phillies....the best. It's like a family."

The Phillies, unfortunately, failed to make it a perfect two for two day Sunday.
