Nick Foles Excited To Get Season Underway

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Last year, Nick Foles watched from the bench as the Eagles opened on the road.  The circumstances will be much different this season.

After taking over as the Eagles starting quarterback last fall, Foles has emerged as the man to lead the Eagles under center.  The third-year quarterback says he can't wait to open the season in front of the home fans on Sunday.

"I know they're pumped," said Foles.  "I know the city of Philadelphia and the surrounding cities and whoever is going to come to the game is thrilled.  They've waited since the last game last year to be here, so we're excited to have a home opener in Philadelphia at the Linc."

Foles may have a hard time duplicating his 27 touchdowns passes compared to just two interceptions from last season, but if Foles even comes close to those numbers, it could be a very successful season for the Eagles.  Foles insists he still has plenty to prove, and isn't looking past Sunday's opener with the Jaguars.

"This is the most important game of the season right here," Foles said.  "Our first game is our next game.  You have to prepare every day like this is the championship game."

The lack of turnovers by Foles was a key to the Eagles' success last season.  Chip Kelly also talked about the importance of winning the turnover battle, and how he's been fortunate to coach quarterbacks throughout his career who take care of the football.

"The guys I've had the opportunity to coach have really understood what we wanted to accomplish," said Kelly. "They understood the value of the turnover question.  We spend a lot of time on that.  Sometimes, throwing the ball away is more valuable than trying to force it in there."

Foles says he is prepared for a host of different looks from the Jacksonville defense from Sunday.  With kickoff creeping closer, Foles says there is still plenty of work to do before Sunday's game gets underway.

"It's not game day yet," Foles said.  "We still have a couple more days to prepare.  We still have more film to study.  Then, game time should be the right time to be ready to go.  We'll be ready on Sunday."

Wide Receiver Josh Huff (shoulder), Offensive Lineman Matt Tobin (ankle) and Cornerback Jaylen Watkins (hamstring) all sat out practice again on Thursday.
