PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — The heavy police presence around Suburban Station, in center city Philadelphia, was turning a lot of heads this afternoon.

Vice president Joe Biden was in town.

Many curious onlookers gathered outside One Penn Center, where Biden was attending an event for the
New Hampshire-Louisiana Victory Fund.

The vice president’s motorcade was led by dozens of Philadelphia motorcycle police officers.

“He just waved — right there, he  was in the second car, at the window,” said one woman bystander excitedly.

“When I saw them block off 16th and JFK, when I came out on a break, I said something was going on ’cause the cops were all over,” noted another woman.  “So it’s pretty interesting to know vice president Joe Biden is here.  Hi, Joe!”

The event was closed to the press.
