Late Summer Plant Sales Begin
By Phran Novelli
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Along with stacks of back-to-school supplies showing up everywhere, it's a sure sign that autumn's almost here when the plant sales begin again!
This Saturday, August 23rd, is one of the first, the Fall Gardeners' Market in Valley Forge. This event is organized by the Hardy Plant Society/Mid-Atlantic Group but you don't have to be a member to go. It's free and open to everyone.
One of the things that makes a sale like this special is that, besides a wide variety of plant choices, (along with gardening gear, gadgets and ornaments), this is the kind of place where you'll find some of the most unique trees, shrubs and perennials that don't show up in your everyday neighborhood garden center.
Many plants are grown by Hardy Plant Society members. And with so many members on hand at this event, you can also get lots of friendly advice from experienced gardeners to help you decide.
The Fall Gardeners' Market runs this Saturday from 8:30 am through 2 pm, at the Freedoms Foundation in Valley Forge. Get directions at the FreedomsFoundation.org.
