Dueling Pop-Up Picnics Take Place This Week
By Hadas Kuznits
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Two secret pop-up dinners take place this week -- one with a white theme, the other with a black theme.
Natanya DiBona, co-host of Philadelphia's 3rd annual Diner En Blanc, says the now sold out elegant all-white pop up picnic taking place Thursday is open to all:
"So actually it's not about being accepted, it's about being able to register in time. So everyone who gets on the wait list gets an email sent to them. It's whether you register in time before it sells out."
Among those unable to register in time this year was Chris Nowaczyk, so he started his own event, Diner en Noir:
"We have around 300 guests currently have bought tickets and we're ready to go."
He says that's a small number compared to the Diner en Blanc participants:
"3500 (people), it's about a thousand more than last year so we're the second largest in the US, second largest to New York."
But he says his idea of a pop-up picnic is similar, only in black:
"They would have to bring their own silverware, glassware, black or red tablecloth, cloth napkins."
