Man Charged With Murdering His Mental Health Caseworker in Delco is Arraigned

By Brad Segall

MEDIA, Pa. (CBS) -- The man who police say opened fire last month in a medical office on the campus of Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital, in Delaware County, has been arraigned on the charges filed against him.

Richard Plotts was arraigned by video this morning from the Delaware County Prison, where he is being held without bail on murder and related charges.

This is the second time he was arraigned -- the first coming bedside at a hospital in Philadelphia.

Plotts, 49, is accused of murdering Theresa Hunt, his mental health caseworker, and injuring his doctor, Lee Silverman.

Silverman pulled his own gun and fired at Plotts, seriously injuring him.

Today, the judge set Plotts' preliminary hearing date for August 26th, although that may be postponed because it was not yet known whether Plotts had an attorney.

Law enforcement authorities say Plotts may have been upset because the medical building has a "guns-free" policy.
