Nike's Inspiring Paul George Ad Continues Trend

By Ray Boyd

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- You more than likely saw the gruesome Paul George injury that occurred last week during Team USA's scrimmage in Las Vegas. How could you miss it? You probably also saw the outpouring of support from fans and fellow players who took to social media to encourage George who is expected to miss the entire 2014-15 season with a compound fracture of his leg.

Nike joined the group of those encouraging the Pacers star to come back better than ever. You expect the well wishes from friends and family. You expect it from fellow players and fans. Do you expect it to come from an endorser?

Maybe you do. Maybe you don't. Regardless of that, Nike did their part by one of their athletes to wish him a speedy recover.

Nike tweeted out a new ad featuring George. The accompanying tweet read "Without the setbacks, the comebacks aren't as sweet. #justdoit."

George can think about the fact as he looks at the ad the company created.

Nike has made a habit of creating thought provoking ads throughout the years. Remember the compelling ad the company created following Tiger Woods' scandal and comeback which featured the voice of Woods' father?

How can we forgot the "I am not a role model," ad that sought to sum up the persona that is Charles Barkley, or the Michael Jordan commercial that taught us all about failure?

Nike has always set the standard for sports commercials. There ability to have real life reflected in their advertisements has been what has set them apart to this point. The George advertisement may not sell a lot of sneakers, but it aligns perfectly with the image that Nike has always portrayed in its ads.
