MIDDLE Twp., N.J., (CBS) – A 34-year-old English teacher is facing several charges, including sexual assault and possession of child pornography.

Joseph Towns turned himself in to authorities Tuesday and was charged with having sexual contact with one of his students.

The Cape May County Prosecutor’s office alleges the 34-year-old teacher at Middle Township High School engaged in criminal sexual contact with the student from October 2012 through October 2013.

Fellow students Eyewitness News talked to say the alleged victim is a female student.

No one answered the door at Towns’ home in Cape May, and his father did not wish to comment on the charges.

After his arrest Tuesday, Towns was taken to the Cape May County Correctional Facility where he posted bail.

The Middle Township Board of Education has suspended Towns and removed him from any contact with students.
