EXCLUSIVE: Good Samaritans On Jet Skis Rescue Woman From Delaware River

By Walt Hunter

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Three jet skiers suddenly became heroes around 10:40 a.m. Monday when, police say, they saved a 61-year-old woman who was swept under by Delaware River currents just off of Penn's Landing.

Eyewitness Tyrone Weston, who took photos of the rescue, told CBS 3's Walt Hunter in an exclusive interview how the three jet skiers – two men and a woman – raced to help the woman moments after she fell in.

Lt. Andrew Napoli of the Police Marine Unit told Hunter the jet skiers kept the woman above the water until a nearby police craft arrived.

The unidentified woman was checked out by medics, but police say she is expected to make a full recovery.

The unidentified rescuers headed back up the Delaware after the incident ended.

Lt. Napoli says that considering the river's depth and the dangerous currents, he believes the heroes' quick actions may have saved the victim's life.
