Philadelphia Organization Hosts All Day Running Event For The Homeless

By Michelle Durham

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A group committed to helping members of the homeless community transition to housing is hosting a unique fundraiser, and if you want to participate, make sure to bring your running shoes!

"Back On My Feet has been around since 2007 and is headquartered in Philly. We use running to help those experiencing homelessness...get their lives back through job training, education and finding housing," explains Mary Fitzgerald, the CEO of the organization.

So, it stands to reason this weekend's events focus on running.

"We have the only 24 hour running event in Philadelphia…featuring an Ultra Marathon, which starts on Saturday morning. We also do a midnight glow run, and we also offer relay teams, so you can team up and run one loop. You can run for 12 hours or 24 hours," she says.

There is also a 5K on Sunday morning.
