PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Recent days have been tough for the Phillies to say the least. The same can be said for the fans. There may be a bit of relief on the way in the form of a few visits from some old friends.
The Phillies will be paid a visit from former ace Roy Halladay and former Manager Charlie Manuel in August.
Halladay will return to Citizen’s Bank Park on August 8th during Alumni Weekend. That night Halladay will toss out the first pitch and be honored prior to the game against the Mets. Every fan in attendance will also receive a Roy Halladay Bobble Figurine. Halladay retired from the Phillies after last season.
The next day will be all about Manuel. The Phillies’ World Series winning manager saw his tenure with the team come to an end when he was fired during last season. His dismissal was received with mixed reviews from fans and on that day fans will have the opportunity to show their appreciation for Manuel.
At 6:50, prior to first pitch, Manuel will be honored by the team and be added to the Phillies Wall of Fame. Former players of Manuel’s will take place in the ceremony including Halladay.
Several Wall of Fame members including Mike Schmidt, Steve Carlton, Garry Maddox, Dallas Green, Jim Bunning and more. A bronze plaque of Manuel will be added to the wall and a surprise Phillies player will return to unveil the plaque.
All fans in attendance will receive a commemorative print of Manuel.
More Phillies alumni will be around the ballpark as well for Sunday and Monday’s games as well.
