PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Strong storms moved across the Delaware Valley Tuesday night, leaving hundreds of thousands of residents without power.
Toppled trees and power outages from Delaware to Pennsylvania, Mother Nature once again left her mark.
“The sky got extremely dark and the wind picked up, I didn’t know if it was a tornado coming through or what,” Frances Watson of Wilmington, Del. said.
There were about 31,000 PECO outages remaining at about 5 p.m. Wednesday night, down significantly from a peak of 260,000.
The majority of those outages are in Chester County, where just over 14,000 customers are without service. Nearly 6,500 outages remain in Delaware County. The number of customers without service in Bucks County is down to 6,000. Montgomery County is dealing with about 4,000 outages. And in Philadelphia, PECO is reporting around 800 outages.
PECO hopes to have the majority of those people without power back on the grid by the end of today, but they do warn that some customers could be in the dark until Friday.
PSEG was reporting 4,086 and PPL had 688 still without power.
Tuesday night wild winds whipped through PPL Park in Chester, Delaware County. Fans say they had to seek shelter in the concourse and a lot of people got dust in their eyes as winds swept dust across the stadium.
In Yeadon, a downed tree fell on top of power lines at Lansdowne Avenue and Providence Road.
In Philadelphia, normal service has resumed on SEPTA’s Market/Frankford Line. Shuttle buses had been operating between 69th Street Terminal and 63rd Street due to weather related conditions.
All SEPTA passengers may experience delays due to weather related conditions. For current updates on all routes go to System Status.
