Two IronPigs Have Big Nights Down On The Farm

PHILADELPHIA, PA (CBS) -- Last night the struggles continued for the Phillies as they fell to the Marlins, 5-0, to lose their sixth straight contest. On a much brighter note, two IronPigs chipped in down in the Lehigh-Valley to propel them to a victory.

While the Phillies were struggling to muster up a run, newly acquired outfielder Grady Sizemore, lead off the IronPigs night with a homerun. Sizemore is not the typical prospect as he does have years of major league experience and some All-Star appearances under his belt.

However, the organization has him sharpening up his skills down in the minors following his release from the Red Sox.

Through five games with the IronPigs, Sizemore is batting .300 with six hit, two runs scored and a homerun. Sizemore also flashed his glove in last night's ball game making an impressive diving play in left field.

One of the Phillies' typical prospects, Maikel Franco also had a stellar night. Franco went 4-4 last night against Syracuse. It was his first four hit game of the season and his first three-plus hit game since May 16th.

Franco, 21 is still very young and despite his struggles this season (.219 BA, 5 HR, 51 SO), the team stills views him as a valued prospect.

It will be interesting to see if we see either of these IronPigs make the trip up to the big league team in the near future.
