At Least One Injured In Norristown Shootout

By Walt Hunter

NORRISTOWN, Pa. (CBS) -- The calm of a summer afternoon on Norristown's North End was shattered by the sound of gunfire around two this afternoon.

Bullets were flying near the 1800 block of Willow Street, spent shell casings littered the street, and there were at least two bullet holes in a neighbor's car.

Norristown Police who rushed to the scene say a bullet-riddled mini-van pulled into the Emergency Room parking area of Mercy Hospital a short time later. Police confirmed a passenger is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

At the scene, police and K-9 tracking dogs searched for suspects and evidence as officers picked up spent shell casings from the street.

Neighbors say they also heard gunshots in this neighborhood last night, although there were no reports of injuries.

So far, Norristown Police have not released any additional information about the suspects, their description, whether they are in custody or the motive they believe is behind the violence.

The shooting's victim also has not been identified.

Meanwhile, neighbors, some returning from work, say they are shocked by the sudden outbreak of violence in what, they say, is normally a quiet neighborhood.
