Congressman Alleges Taliban Only Wanted 4 Detainees For Bergdahl, But Obama Insisted On 5

By Dick Morris and Gary R'Nel

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – On Talk Radio 1210 WPHT, Dick Morris and Gary R'Nel spoke with Texas Congressman Steve Stockman about the Obama Administration's deal to secure the release of prisoner of war Bowe Bergdahl, in exchange for five Guantanamo Bay detainees.

Stockman alleges that during the talks to secure the release of Bergdahl, Taliban negotiators only requested that four detainees be released, and the President's administration insisted they take five.

"From what I understand, I'm trying to remember who on the floor told me, I don't know if this is confidential or not, they actually wanted four, and Obama said let us give you five. He's trying to empty out Gitmo, because that's one of his pledges."

He insisted that turning over prisoners is part of a secret plan to clear out the detainees in Guantanamo Bay and to speed the end of US involvement in Afghanistan.

"I subscribe to the fact that it's on his list to check off of things he wants done is to empty it out. I would not be surprised if that's true. He said look we got four, no, take five, in fact take them all."

Stockman also claims that the Obama Administration negotiated directly with terrorists to obtain Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl and will not be honest about it.

"If you ask them today, did you negotiate with terrorists? They would say no. They say we talked to Qatar, and they are the ones who talked to the terrorists, which is a joke."
