Drunk Driving, and Boating, Targeted by Phila. Area Law Enforcement

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Public safety officials gathered today along the Delaware riverfront to warn against a list of activities that become very dangerous when intoxicants are added.
"Take nine heel-to-toe steps on the line," says an officer during a simulated drunk-boating check, part of a multi-agency safety push that also included warnings against biking -- and, of course, driving -- while impaired.
Capt. John Wilczynski of the Philadelphia Police accident investigation unit pointed toward their DUI enforcement truck, about the size of a mobile home.

"We're going to have that out for DUI checkpoints on random Friday and Saturday nights, this weekend and up until about mid-October," he warned today. "The whole purpose in just to ensure that the public is safe, so we'll have that checkpoint out there. So if you see our truck and you see our men and women, drive safely through it, and if you are impaired you'll be arrested and taken downtown."
Also speaking was a young man involved in a DUI crash that left him in a coma for ten days, and with lifelong deficits.
