Mother, Boyfriend Face Charges Following School Heroin Incident
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Criminal charges have been approved against the mother of a six-year-old girl who brought 11 packets of heroin to class at the Barry Elementary School in West Philadelphia and the mother's male companion.
The Philadelphia District Attorney's Office has approved charging the mother, identified by police as 32-year-old Marie Hunter and the man, identified as 28-year-old Christopher Troy-Jenkins White, with endangering the welfare of a child. White has also been charged with possession of marijuana.

Prosecutors point out that the criminal charge filed is related to the alleged living conditions inside the girl's home, NOT to the heroin that was found in her possession.
Police searching the home where the little girl lived on Tuesday night say they found 18 packets of marijuana stuffed into the pocket of a shirt. The first grader, police sources say, found the heroin packets in the pocket of her pants and, not realizing what the substance was, began playing with the packets on her desk. A teacher spotted the packets, confiscated them, and notified police.

Twenty students were transported by school bus from the school to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia to be checked out as a precaution (See Related Story). They were later released.
