Philadelphians Prefer Bigger (Dogs)

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Philadelphians truly do think bigger is better – at least when it comes to canines.

According to Trupanion, a medical insurance provider, Philly residents prefer pups that are much larger than the national average.

The company examined its database of thousands of pets and found that these ten dog breeds were much more common in the City of Brotherly Love than in other parts of the nation:

1. Greyhound
2. Cane Corso
3. Scottish Terrier
4. English Bulldog
5. Rottweiler
6. Great Dane
7. English Springer Spaniel
8. American Staffordshire Terrier
9. Mastiff
10. Saint Bernard

But the company warns that some conditions are more prevalent in big breeds. For instance, cancer is an issue for Rottweilers, Great Danes and American Staffordshire Terriers.

Other problems large dogs are prone to? Congenital hip dysplasia, gastroenteritis and diarrhea, ingestion of foreign materials and rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament.
