Congressman Fattah On Passing Of Lewis Katz: 'He Was A True Friend And Effective Leader.'

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Congressman Chaka Fattah (PA-‐02) released the following statement on the passing of his good friend, Philadelphia Inquirer owner Lewis Katz:

"I am shocked and saddened to learn of the sudden and tragic death of my good friend Lewis Katz. Lewis was a great man
with a big heart. He believed in people and left a lasing impression on every person he encountered and every organization he worked with or lead. An astute businessman, he was generous with both his time and his wealth. It was just Friday that we were together joining forces to raise awareness and funds for prostate cancer research in Philadelphia. Lewis' compassion and philanthropic efforts were well known. He never forgot his modest upbringings and was a generous donor to countless organizations in our community, including the Boys and Girls club of America, Girard College and Temple University where it was recently announced the medical school would be renamed for him, after he gave the largest single gifts in the school's history. Lewis was involved in anything that was positive, anything that was good. He was a true friend and effective leader. I will miss him, but am heartened to know that he left our community a better place for those around him and his legacy will live on. Renee and I offered our sincere condolences to his son Drew earlier today. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of each life lost in yesterday's tragic crash."
