The 38th Hero Bowl Befits Special Cause

Philadelphia, PA (CBS) — The 38th annual Hero Bowl, played tonight at 7 p.m. at Widener's Leslie C. Quick Stadium, will no doubt be another contentious game played between the best senior football players in Delaware County.
But the meaning of the game holds a greater meeting to those playing, and to those that will pack the stadium tonight. The annual all-star game benefits the families of fallen police officers, firefighters and EMT workers.
The West All-Stars are comprised of seniors from the Central League, along with Episcopal Academy and Haverford School, and the East All-Stars have seniors from the Del-Val League, Cardinal O'Hara, Monsignor Bonner, Archbishop Carroll and Delco Christian.
Haverford High's Joe Gallagher will coach the West All-Stars and Chichester's Ryan Smith will coach of the East.
Some of the special talents featured will be Academy Park tailback Jerry Lanier, who rushed for over 2,300 yards last season.
