Enjoy Tuesday's 'Summer-Like' Temps Before The Cool Down

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Most of us enjoyed some absolutely terrific Memorial Day weather. Unfortunately, now we must deal with some less than ideal conditions for the midweek.

Tuesday, May 27th will be our last steamy day for a while as highs again soar into the upper 80s. Today will feature some sun, but the threat exists for some thunderstorms to popup this afternoon. Some of those could produce gusty winds, dangerous lightning, and, as we saw last week, small hail.

Tonight skies remain cloudy, and tomorrow morning a backdoor cold front drops down from the northeast, bringing showers and much cooler temperatures. Highs tomorrow will only be a few degrees above 70.

Clouds linger on Thursday and temperatures will yet again struggle to get out of the 60s.

Another cold front on Friday should bring in some showers and thunderstorms, with high pressure building in behind just in time for the weekend!

If you are lucky enough to have scored an extra day off for Memorial Day, today will be a pretty decent beach day. Expect partly sunny skies and temps in the upper 70s. Just be sure to keep an eye to the sky this afternoon as we do expect to see some thunderstorms.

Today in Weather History:

1896 - A massive tornado struck St. Louis, MO, killing 306 persons and causing thirteen million dollars damage. The tornado path was short, but cut across a densely populated area.
