WEATHER BLOG: Will Gorgeous Holiday Weather Last?

By Katie Fehlinger

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- It's the kind of forecast you want to put on repeat. Whether you're barbecuing, bike riding, beach bumming, or just basking in the backyard, the weather cooperates this Memorial Day: abundant sunshine, summer-like warmth, comfortable humidity levels, light wind...PERFECTION!

A quick heads up for allergy sufferers: pollen levels are high so have your medications ready. Also, lather on the sunblock! That solar angle is very strong, so grab at least a 30 SPF.

Back to the warmth! Let's put it in perspective. The warmest average temperature in Philadelphia all YEAR is 87 degrees. So, Philadelphia's expected Memorial Day high of 87 is on par with the peak of summer (late July and early August).

Of course, it can only last so long. Tuesday starts with sunshine, but by afternoon our next cold front will approach and usher in some showers or locally heavy thunderstorms. Right now, it doesn't appear that any storms would turn severe. That could change, so the Eyewitness Weather Team will keep you updated. You can follow all of us on social media here:

Wednesday through Friday remain somewhat unsettled, so we'll be monitoring additional chances for showers or storms.

Happy Memorial Day 2014!
Katie
