PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Phillies starting pitcher Cliff Lee was placed on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday. An MRI showed Lee has a grade 1/2 left elbow strain.

Lee, is 4-4 with a 3.18 ERA in 10 starts this season.

Phillies General Manager Ruben Amaro Jr. called the strain “mild,” saying the Phillies want to be “cautious with him.”

Lee said he first felt discomfort in his elbow after his start against the Braves on April 16th, where Lee threw 128 pitches.

The Phillies have recalled OF/1B Darin Ruf from Lehigh Valley (AAA) to take Lee’s spot on the roster. Ruf, 27, is 9-34 (.265) with three doubles, one home run, and two RBI’s in 9 games for Lehigh Valley this season.
