Terrific Tuesday, Slightly Unsettled Mid-Week

By Geoff Bansen

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Tuesday May 20th is shaping up to be a great day. Sunshine will dominate for the majority of the day, yielding to some late afternoon high clouds. Temperatures will be warmer than Monday, stretching into the upper 70s. No excuses for not getting out to the polls to vote for the Democratic Primary!!!

Clouds thicken tonight and we could see a late passing sprinkle. The first part of tomorrow looks cloudy, with showers and even some thunderstorms moving in by the afternoon as a warm front approaches.

The unsettled weather lasts into Thursday as well, with some peeks of sun. These two days won't be winners, but they aren't total washouts either. By Friday, we begin to improve and the holiday weekend is looking good!

With Memorial Day only a few days away, it is important to remember to start thinking of summer safety tips to ensure fun in the sun. Katie Fehlinger will be talking about some of these, for land and sea, both tomorrow and Friday morning!

Today in Weather History:
1916 - A tornado struck the town of Codell, KS. Another tornado struck the town on the same day the following year (1917)…and a third tornado hit Codell on May 20th in 1918! The odds of this happening were astronomical. This event was featured in Ripley's Believe It or Not, and put the small Kansas community on the map and in the weather history books. 2013 - An EF5 tornado that struck Moore, Oklahoma, and adjacent areas on the afternoon of May 20 of last year. Peak winds were estimated at 210 mph, killing 24 people and injuring 377 others. (picture attached)
