What's New At The Shore: Renovated Getaway Spots

By Hadas Kuznits

ATLANTIC CITY N.J. (CBS) -- If you're taking a shore vacation, you'll need a place to stay.

Sherry Amos, with the Claridge Hotel in Atlantic City, says this summer her hotel is being refurbished to its original 1920's glory:

"TJM Properties, owned by Terry McCarthy, a hotelier out of Florida, recently purchased the hotel and is very much into bringing back the historical beauty of the Claridge."

Amos says the Claridge was once a hot spot for elite vacationers:

"Princess Grace of Monaco, Marilyn Monroe, Nucky Johnson from 'Boardwalk Empire.' This was also Frank Sinatra's favorite spot."

And as the summer season gets underway, Courtney Birmingham with Resorts says they too have invested in renovations:

"We did some of the rooms in the Ocean Tower with new bathrooms. all of the rooms received new bedding, new mattresses, new TVs and we have wifi throughout the entire casino as well."

Steve Tecco is owner of the Armada By-The-Sea Motel, in Wildwood Crest:

"Technology, of course, will date a room."

"Years ago paneling went out. We replaced it with wallpaper. Now there's new types of paneling coming out again that are very fresh and clean looking," Tecco said.

Amos agrees:

"I believe every year to two years you have to keep up with the renovations and keep things fresh for people to come back."
