Gray Wednesday, Soggy End Of The Week

By Geoff Bansen

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Wednesday morning will be a stark contrast to the beginning of the week. Sun and warmth has been replaced by clouds and much cooler temperatures. The reason is a "backdoor" cold front that dropped down from New England last night. The majority of the day looks to stay dreary with highs around 70. There could perhaps some sunny peaks in the afternoon. Some widely scattered drizzle is also possible.

A warm front then moves north of the area tonight, returning the warmer temperatures for Thursday, but also the chance for some daytime showers and storms. Then on Friday we have a cold front that could interact with some tropical moisture to bring us a real soaker. It will be cool and breezy as well. The weekend looks cool but sunny!

This Day In Weather History:

1896: The mercury plunged to 10 degrees below zero at Climax, CO. It was the lowest reading of record for the U.S. during the month of May.
